Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Supporting the silent system that keeps fluids moving and immunity strong.

Back to Manual Therapies

Lymph drainage massage supports a sluggish lymph system — which can otherwise contribute to minor aches and pains, low energy and susceptibility to colds and flu.

Within us all there is a silent system working to keep us healthy — the lymph system. Without it our bodies would swell up like balloons, swamping our cells with stagnant fluid. The lymph system's impact is so far reaching that many don't even realise that minor aches and pains, low energy or susceptibility to colds and flu may be due to a sluggish lymph system and a compromised immune system.

How it works

Lymph vessels form a one-way network that collects interstitial fluid, filters it through lymph nodes and returns it to the bloodstream. Unlike the circulatory system, lymph has no pump — it depends on muscle movement, breathing and gentle external stimulation to keep flowing.

Lymphatic drainage massage uses very light, rhythmic strokes that follow the direction of lymph flow. It can help reduce swelling (oedema), support recovery after surgery or injury, and complement detoxification programmes. As with all bodywork, contraindications apply — active infections, certain cancers and acute inflammation among them — so a clinical assessment always precedes treatment.
